What this dataset contains

The Pocket Book records DS/AGA divisions, Grama Niladhari divisions, Pradeshiya Sabhas, Municipal Councils, Urban Councils and the source’s electorate category for all 25 districts and Sri Lanka. The table is explicitly dated 19 December 2025 and retains its special counting notes.

How it is used here

Compare reported administrative-unit counts across districts or inspect the distribution of local authority types at the stated date. Use the footnotes when matching these counts to a boundary file or an earlier council dataset.

What it cannot tell you

Counts do not provide boundaries, membership lists, service capacity or population coverage. Different unit types describe overlapping administrative systems and cannot be added as a single count. Batticaloa’s 346 GN divisions are a statistical count; the source says there are 345 territorial divisions. Matale’s 532 GN divisions reflect reservoir-related removals. Ampara’s DS/AGA figure includes the Kalmunai North sub-secretariat. The table reflects five council upgrades in 2023, giving 29 Municipal Councils and 36 Urban Councils nationally; this differs from the classifications in some earlier financial returns. A source dash retains nil-or-negligible status and is not made into a numerical zero.
