What this dataset contains

The 2024 census reports computer and digital literacy rates for all districts, with their populations aged five and over, and for three residential-sector groupings. Computer literacy requires independently turning on a computer and performing a task. Digital literacy includes the ability to perform a task on a computer or smartphone.

How it is used here

Compare the published district rates or examine the gap between computer and digital literacy within each sector. Use the population counts as the published age-eligible denominators, not as counts of literate people.

What it cannot tell you

The measures concern basic ability, not advanced proficiency, educational attainment, internet access or device ownership. Computer and digital literacy overlap and their rates cannot be added. Rates use the population aged five and over and should not be joined directly to surveys with different age ranges. This table combines urban and estate-urban into one urban grouping; estate-rural is separate. Percentages are rounded to one decimal and should not be averaged across districts without weights. National figures appear in both breakdowns and overlap the component geographies.
