What this dataset contains
Five annual CBSL index series for 2021–2025 reproduced in DCS table 9.8: import and export value indices, import and export volume indices, and terms of trade. The published base is 2010=100. The source defines terms of trade as the export unit-price index divided by the import unit-price index, multiplied by 100.
How it is used here
Compare import and export movements within the value or volume index family. Follow terms of trade separately to assess relative export and import unit-price movements.
What it cannot tell you
Index values are neither rupee trade amounts nor physical tonnes. A value index combines price and volume effects; a volume index is a separate measure, and the two should not be added. Terms of trade below 100 refer to relative unit prices against the base and do not establish a trade deficit or declining trade volume. The excerpt does not give commodity weights, detailed coverage or seasonal adjustment. Published indices are rounded, so recomputing terms of trade from them can differ slightly from the reported figure. These national indices should not be joined to another base without a documented link.
