What this dataset contains

Ministry of Fisheries national figures compiled by DCS. Annual output for 2018–2025 is split into coastal, offshore or deep-sea, and inland or aquaculture production. Fleet and active-fisher counts cover 2022–2025, with marine and inland categories. All 2025 figures are provisional.

How it is used here

Track total fish production, total operating boats, or the number of active fishers. Subsector and fleet-type records allow more detailed comparisons.

What it cannot tell you

Output is in metric tonnes, fleet size in boats and fishers in people; these measures cannot be added together. Published totals overlap their components. Active-fisher counts do not measure hours worked or fishing income. National aggregates do not describe landing sites, districts, fish stocks or sustainability. The source’s 2023 total for active fishers exceeds the sum of its marine and inland counts by 280 people; all three published figures are retained.
