What this dataset contains

Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment departure figures for 2017–2025, compiled by DCS. The table provides detailed manpower categories and male/female counts for 2017–2021, plus a domestic-housekeeping category without a sex split. For 2022–2025 it gives broad skilled and low-skilled groups by sex. Total departures are available for all nine years; 2022–2024 figures are revised.

How it is used here

Track total annual departures or compare the broad skill groups by sex in 2025. The original category scheme is recorded for each observation.

What it cannot tell you

The change from detailed to broad manpower categories prevents a continuous skill-category series. The summary does not explain how all earlier categories, including domestic housekeeping, map into the later groups. No sex is inferred for the unsplit domestic-housekeeping figures. Departures do not measure the stock of Sri Lankans abroad, and the summary does not establish unique migrants or length of stay. Totals overlap their components.
