What this dataset contains
The 2024 census reports household shares by main disposal method for biodegradable waste, polythene and plastic, electronic waste, glass and bottles, other solid waste, and liquid waste. Figures cover Sri Lanka and four separately reported sectors: urban, estate-urban, rural and estate-rural. The solid-waste table also reports each sector’s household count.
How it is used here
Compare local-authority collection across waste types and sectors, or inspect the national distribution of plastic and liquid-waste disposal methods. Use household counts only as their own measure.
What it cannot tell you
These are reported household practices, not tonnes collected, collection frequency, recycling rates or wastewater-treatment quality. Sector percentages have different household denominators and cannot be added or averaged without weights. The national total overlaps the four sectors. Published percentages are rounded; 0.0 can conceal a small nonzero share. Missing methods within a waste type are not assigned zero. The source wording Composing solid waste is retained. This import uses the downloaded final-report edition; older cached copies at the same URL can contain different biodegradable-waste percentages.
