What this dataset contains
Provisional 2024 expenditure in thousands of Sri Lankan rupees. Municipal and urban councils are national aggregates; Pradeshiya Sabhas are shown by province and as a national total. Categories cover recurrent spending, capital spending and their components.
How it is used here
Compare total expenditure by council type or Pradeshiya Sabha capital expenditure across provinces. The detailed categories identify staff costs, repairs and maintenance, supplies, services, grants, pensions, investment outlays and loan repayments.
What it cannot tell you
Figures cover one provisional year and do not identify individual councils or the outcomes of spending. Provincial figures cover Pradeshiya Sabhas only. Totals and components overlap; small differences in their sums are retained. Capital expenditure includes loan repayments and therefore is broader than physical investment. In table 15.7, the final column is mislabelled as capital expenditure; its I+II formula and values identify it as total expenditure. This interpretation is recorded on every affected observation.
