What this dataset contains
Annual national hectares for major and minor irrigation schemes, 2017–2025. DCS distinguishes irrigable area, the asweddumized extent during the year, from irrigated area, the extent cultivated across both seasons in the cultivation year.
How it is used here
Compare physical irrigable paddy area between major and minor schemes, or follow the separately reported cultivated area over time.
What it cannot tell you
Irrigated area counts cultivation in both seasons and can exceed the physical irrigable land area. Dividing these measures does not give a simple share of land served by irrigation. The table does not provide district detail, water volumes, infrastructure condition, crop yield or a separate rainfed category. The substantial changes in major/minor scheme figures in 2025 are reproduced as printed; this table does not explain whether classification or coverage changed.
