What this dataset contains
The platform joins Census 2024 Person-Sex totals onto the same 25 district geometries that carry Census 2012 counts. District match is 100 percent. Each row keeps both census totals, the people change, and the percent change. 2024 totals match the census identity tables.
How it is used here
The chart ranks districts by percent change. The explorer also paints the same 25 districts as a choropleth. Mullaitivu grew fastest; Vavuniya barely moved. Every district grew.
What it cannot tell you
This is district grain only. Divisional Secretariat and Grama Niladhari comparisons across 2012 and 2024 are misleading where those codes were recoded. These are census enumeration counts, not Registrar General mid-year estimates. Gig-data 2012 totals differ from Final Report Table 6.1.11 in Colombo, Kurunegala, Vavuniya and Mullaitivu; this table keeps the geometry-joined 2012 counts so the map and table cannot drift.
