What this dataset contains

NTC National Transport Statistics 2024 tables 5.8, 6.1, 6.2, 6.4 and 7.4. SLTB records annual average fleet, timetable requirement, daily available buses and daily operated buses for 2018–2023. Private-bus data cover inter-provincial service classes for 2015–2023, provincial fleets and seats in 2023, and route counts. Rail figures separate maintainable stock from stock in service in 2023.

How it is used here

Compare SLTB operating availability over time, inspect private-bus capacity by province or service type, and distinguish railway stock in service from maintainable stock. Keep table scope and transport operators in filters.

What it cannot tell you

SLTB measures are averages; the private-bus table does not establish an equivalent daily averaging basis. Do not add them as though they measured the same operational count. Table 6.1 reports 3,151 inter-provincial private buses in 2023 while table 6.2 reports 3,152; both remain in separate table scopes with notes. Fleet includes operated and inactive vehicles, and routes are counts rather than route geometry, frequency, coverage or passenger accessibility. Rail dash cells have no defined legend and remain null with source-ambiguity status; they do not mean Sri Lanka has no passenger coaches or wagons. Maintainable and in-service rail stock overlap. Reported seats, bus counts and routes have different units. The report is a 2024 edition with observations ending in 2023; it does not establish current capacity. Suspect scheduled-distance, passenger-flow and rail-track rows elsewhere in the report are outside this import.
