What this dataset contains
Eight annual observations for each of six national measures: estimated mid-year population, crude birth and death rates, maternal mortality, under-five mortality and infant mortality. The Registrar General figures are reproduced in DCS table 2.7. Population is in thousands; rate denominators are retained separately. The source marks 2018–2021 revised and 2022–2025 provisional.
How it is used here
Compare birth and death rates on the same population denominator. Examine infant and under-five mortality where reported, and use the separate maternal mortality measure with its own denominator.
What it cannot tell you
Fourteen mortality cells are unavailable and remain null; missing rates do not mean no deaths. Maternal mortality is per 100,000 live births, child mortality per 1,000 live births, and birth/death rates per 1,000 population. These denominators cannot be interchanged. The source warns that estimated mid-year population can differ from census counts. From 2009, civil-registration maternal mortality information is reviewed and supplemented using Family Health Bureau data. This table provides national figures only.
